The major use of alternative light sources (ALS) in the evaluation bloodstains has been primarily focused on detection whole blood, with relatively little attention to visualization blood serum. Serum may become separated from pools during clotting, and because it is invisible certain backgrounds, go undetected by a perpetrator attempting clean up crime scene. Recently, Ultraviolet 365 (UV 365) was shown be an effective tool evaluation, useful for even minute quantities Here effects environmental conditions serum stain appearance were evaluated, including temperature, pH, protease sensitivity, solubility, aging. Interestingly, found that UV fluorescence increases upon exposure heat, which accompanied color changes under visible decreased solubility multiple solvents. efficiency stains somewhat variable, depending type material dried. Finally, current study documents effect heating formation fluorescent halo rings dried bloodstains. Taken together, these data demonstrate affected influence its both light.
